Company
Profile:
Synnestvedt
& Lechner LLP ("S&L"), founded in 1897, celebrated its
centennial year as a leader in the field of intellectual property
law. The firm's mission is to meet the special needs of individual
inventors, high technology firms, non-technology-based companies,
merchandisers and emerging enterprises.
Patents
- Obtaining, Licensing & Litigating
As
patent counsel, S&L is unusually strong for three reasons.
First, we are proficient technically in all scientific disciplines.
Second, we know how patents can affect business and how patents
can be utilized to achieve business goals. Finally, since
we are involved with patents from filing through litigation,
we know how best to negotiate and craft agreements which maximize
return and minimize lawsuit risks.
Trademarks
- Trade Dress & Unfair Competition
We
are expert in helping clients to select trademarks that will
distinguish their products in marketplaces throughout the
world. We have both registered and policed trademarks for
manufacturers, advertisers, entertainers, and producers of
high technology, to mention a few. We have worked with products
and services of untold variety: building materials, office
supplies, computer accessories, toys and dolls, educational
aids, medical devices, sports equipment, food and beverages,
cleaning solvents, and many others.
Copyrights
- Registration through Defense
In
1897, when S&L first started registering copyrights, the law
was concerned with little more than the written word. Today
we copyright all sorts of things, for example: jewelry, toy
designs, art work, and computer programs. A copyright is often
the preferred means of protection for the expression of your
original ideas, and if licensing or litigation is necessary,
we are experts at that, too.
Trade
Secrets - Protecting your Know-how
You
may have property rights well worth protecting in employee-held
confidential information. The time to worry about confidentiality
is before, not after, it has been breached. We can help you
decide what needs special treatment, and we can recommend
programs to help safeguard sensitive information. If litigation
is necessary, we are well equipped to handle it.
International
Experience
In
addition to representing clients in the United States, Synnestvedt
& Lechner provides technical expertise coupled with an established
network of patent agents and law firms to help clients with
their intellectual property issues overseas. Firm lawyers
take an active role in interviews with examiners, appeal arguments,
litigation and licensing abroad. The firm has developed an
extensive international practice in the EC countries, Eastern
Europe, Canada, Mexico, South America, the Far East, Australia,
and New Zealand.
Protecting
Intellectual Property Rights in the Years to Come
During
the past one hundred years, we have seen our role change and
grow as our clients' businesses developed. Early on, we were
simply asked to obtain patents and register trademarks. Now,
in addition, we help our clients understand how intellectual
property rights can be used to create business opportunities
that can lead to increased income and profits. Also, we are
adept at helping clients avoid problems that can be encountered
if the intellectual property rights of third parties are not
honored. Whatever we are called upon to do, imaginative and
effective client service is our commitment.
